The Explorers broke open a close game midway through the first half, taking a 16 point halftime lead, and held off Xavier down the stretch for an 80-70 win at Gola Arena. Earl Pettis scored 23 points to lead La Salle, who were able to avenge a 38 point loss at Xavier last season.
Also in double figures for the Explorers were Ramon Galloway (16), Tyreek Duren (10), and Sam Mills (10). Devon White chipped in 9 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and a block while Duren added 7 assists. Tu Holloway and Dezmine Wells scored 15 points each to lead the Musketeers.
